Tax Deductions for Energy Upgrades to Commercial Office Building

Last year we did $250,000 worth of energy reducing upgrades to our small commercial office building.  Are there any tax deductions available to help offset the cost of that project?

Good afternoon.  The energy reducing project you completed may very well be eligible for additional tax deductions allowable under the EPAct - Energy Tax Incentive Act of 2005.  This program deduction allows for up to $1.80 per sq ft  ($0.25 - $1.80) based on the type of energy reducing project and meeting / exceeding ASHRAE 2001 Energy Code standards; Lighting and lighting controls - up to $0.60 sq/ft, HVAC - up to $0.60 sq/ft, and the Buiding's envelope up to $0.60 sq/ft.

The IRS requires a study be completed by specifically trained engineers in order to meet IRS and ASHRAE compliance standards.

Please feel free to reach out to us for a complimentary feasibilty study which will indicate the expected deduction and the cost of completing the study.
